The Audioquest Dragonfly 1.2 is a fantastic piece of equipement able to deliver an outstanding audio quality from a cheap notebook (or netbook) and some good cans or IEMs. However with the standard Ubuntu pulseaudio configuration you can experience a weird behaviour of the volume. It's very low until you don't reach the maximum volume and at that point it becomes crazy loud. To solve this edit the file /etc/pulse/default.pa and change the line

load-module module-udev-detect

in

load-module module-udev-detect ignore_dB=1

To play music as bit-perfect I use Audacious. Set the output driver to ALSA and select the correct device: plughw:CARD=Dragonfly,DEV=0 and mixer: hw:1
